Protein deficiency is one of the leading causes of malnutrition in Guatemala.
Egg-laying hens provide families with a sustainable source of protein from eggs and meat, as well as an opportunity for supplemental income from selling eggs and grown chickens. Chickens are inexpensive to raise and maintain, making them a viable option for most families.
Mayan Families distributes full-grown, egg-laying hens to needy families who are capable of raising them and would like to be part of this program. We include a supply of feed. In order to maximize value, we purchase and distribute through truckload purchases for groups of at least 20 families per distribution.
