This morning our beloved little 15 year old wire-haired dachshund, Cody, went to wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge. He had a stroke last night and after a night of working with an emergency vet and a morning of working with our vet to try to relieve his pain and help him breathe we had to make the most painful decision of our lives and let him go. He joined our family in 1995 at 8 weeks of age when I was in great sorrow after the loss of my sister. He brought joy back into my heart. He was the funny little boy who carried a small red ball in his mouth for the first 11 years of his life. He was very put out with me when once I could not find a red ball and instead brought home a blue one. He would play fetch with that ball until he collapsed. He was our almost constant companion for over 15 years and he will live in our hearts forever. He loved to hike with us and to walk all over the ranch we owned in Texas. Don and I have heavy hearts tonight and Cody's four-legged brothers Taz and Riley and sister Sophie have looked for him all day. They stood around him and gave him encouragement when he was suffering this morning and I know they wonder where their companion is. I am attaching a couple of pictures of him since I cannot master putting pictures into my message.
Give your precious furbabies a special hug in memory of a little guy who gave so much love and enjoyed a full and happy life even during his last 4 years when he battled some difficult physical problems.
