Little Laura
7/23/2010

Several of you have been following little Laura . She is
9yrs old. She is from San Antonio Palopo. She comes from a family of 10
children.  They are very, very poor.  Laura has glaucoma in one eye and
it looks like she has already lost the sight in it. The family has
never received medical attention for her.
Thanks to Vanessa raising money for her medical treatment , we were
able to send her to the city.  The first time we sent her was for
evaluation and there are two different treatments they are offering but
none could be done that day as her parents were not with her, just her
older brother.  The clinic needed the parent's permission.  The parents
were not able to go with them because the mother gets car sick, she has
never been to the city and was scared to go, the father is unable to
take a day off work for fear of losing his job.
So this morning at 3.am. we sent her into the clinic again with an
aunt.  We were armed with a paper from a lawyer signed by the parents
...which was not able to be finished till nearly 9.p.m. last night , in
the pouring rain .  The father was not available till that time.   We
had little Laura and her aunt stay here at the house last night so that
they would not miss the mini van.   We got up at 3.am. and saw them
off.  Mayan Families staff member, Rodolfo , accompanied Laura and her
aunt to the clinic as they do not speak Spanish, we also dropped off
Lucas, who is a parapalegic to the Hospital , he is being assessed for
an operation for his catheter problems....and then at 8.am. Rodolfo
called me and told me that the anesthesiologist was unable to operate
because little Laura's lungs were full of an infection.  We had not
noticed that she had an infection.
She showed no signs of coughing.  So they are unable to operate on her
today and we will have to re-schedule again for another two weeks.
