Jose's father left home 3 months ago.  He was not supporting the family. He threw the family out of the house. He now lives with another woman and continues to give no financial support for the family. 

Sebastiana makes and sells tortillas from her house. She makes $1.35 US. per day.

This money is not enough to make ends meet. They cannot afford to pay the rent and to be able to buy sufficient food.  Nor does Sebastiana have the money to be able to send Jose Julio to school. 

The two elder girls give their wages to their mother to help pay the rent and buy the food.

They also had to cover the rent when they were living with the father . He did not give the mother money to pay the rent.

When the father forced them out of the house, they could not take their possessions with them such as the closet etc.  They are now keeping their clothes in a cardboard box,
