Chickens Program

Protein deficiency is one of the greatest causes of malnutrition in Guatemala. This is largely due to limited incomes.

Raising chickens gives families a sustainable source of protein from eggs and meat, as well as an opportunity for supplemental income from selling eggs and grown chickens. Chickens are inexpensive to raise and maintain, and the protein from their eggs and meat helps to prevent the devastating effects of malnutrition.

Mayan Families provides baby chickens to needy families

Mayan Families distributes baby chickens to needy families who are capable of raising them and would like to be part of this Program. Our distributions are 10 per family and include a supply of feed. For best economies, we purchase and distribute through truckload purchases for minimal groups of 20 families per distribution.

How you can help the Chickens Program

A contribution of $35 will enable Mayan Families to provide a needy family with 10 chickens and a supply of feed. A contribution of $700 will enable us to provide an entire monthly distribution of chickens and feed to 20 families.

Please select the Contribute button to support the Chickens Program. All donations of any amount are gratefully appreciated and will be used only for this Program.

If you would like your contribution to go towards someone special then send a message to personaldonation@mayanfamilies.org to alert our distribution team.
