It is not uncommon for sick people to be fearful of seeking aid due to language barriers or inability to pay. Many can only speak their native Mayan language and not Spanish. Medical expenses are very often beyond the reach of Indigenous people in Guatemala. Transportation to specialists and hospitals in Guatemala City can also be very expensive. Our Medical Program is committed to ensuring that the needy do not suffer in pain and get the medical attention they require to be healthy.

We have encountered numerous and varied special case medical needs. Many times the needs are for infants and children. We have provided health care services for cases ranging from a simple eye test, the effects of malnutrition, heart surgeries, help for rape victims, help for people and families living with HIV/Aids and treatment for cancer patients.
We facilitate free clinics for visiting doctors and dentists. Many of these are held at our headquarters for weeks at a time.
We have made arrangements with Guatemala clinics and physicians to treat the people we support. The clinics then bill Mayan Families at negotiated rates.
We make sure that needy people requiring medical attention are able to get to clinics, specialists, and hospitals. We often pay for private services to transport people long distances.
We bring wheelchairs to individuals with special needs.
We provide vision care (including surgeries) and eyeglasses for those in need.
Please select the Contribute button to support the Medical Program. All contributions of any amount are gratefully accepted.
If you would like your contribution to go towards someone special, then send a message to personaldonation@mayanfamilies.org after you have completed your payment. This will alert our medical management team.
